Child luring charges

On May 7th, as a result of a child luring investigation conducted by the Belleville Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Division, a 31-year-old male from Belleville was arrested and charged with one count of luring a person under sixteen years of age and one count of exposure to a person under sixteen years of age. The male was held for a bail hearing. The Belleville Police Service will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the youth victim.

Graffiti downtown

On April 28th at approximately 1 a.m., two people left a business near the north end of Front Street with a group of others. The two persons (in the accompanying photos) began to cause mischief to numerous buildings and locations throughout the downtown core by tagging “ZEB” on them.

Thousands of dollars in damage has been caused. Police are continuing the investigation and are looking to identify the two people in the photos. Also attached are photos of the tagging. A business on Dundas St. East was also tagged with the same graffiti. The suspects are encouraged to turn themselves into police. Anyone with information regarding the identity of the two individuals or the tagging itself are asked to contact the investigating officer, Cst. A. Continuously causing issues at the hospital

A 68-year-old Belleville man who caused issues for local paramedics and medical staff at Belleville General Hospital over the past several weeks was arrested earlier this week.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Belleville Police received a call from the local paramedic dispatching centre advising staff were having issues with a would-be patient who was currently at BGH.

On Thursday alone, the male – who was highly intoxicated – called for an ambulance three times. When transported to the hospital, the individual would become belligerent with staff and leave the location.

According to hospital staff and paramedics, this pattern of behaviour had been ongoing for several days this month alone.

Officers arrived and found the male was on conditions not to consume alcohol. He was arrested and held for a bail hearing Friday.

Break and enter

Belleville Police were called to an east end community after several tools were stolen from a garage earlier this week.

Shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday, officers were dispatched to a home on Southview Avenue. The resident reported his garage had been entered by unknown suspects and a number of items were missing.

Stolen from the property were a Radley Electric lawn mower with battery, Black and Decker leaf blower and a Black and Decker weed trimmer.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers at 613-969-8477.

Impaired charge

Belleville Police responded to the area of North Front Street May 9th at 12:03 a.m. for a report of an impaired driver.

It was reported that the driver was travelling at excessive speeds and swerving in and out of lanes. Police located the suspect vehicle just north of the city and conducted a traffic stop. While speaking with the driver, police formed the grounds that the male driver was impaired by alcohol. Subsequently, the driver was arrested and transported to the Belleville Police Service to continue the investigation.

At the conclusion of the investigation, Jamie Stevens, 34, of no fixed address was charged with impaired driving and over 80. Stevens was released on an Undertaking with a court date in June.

Arrested on warrants

On May 8th at 8:05 p.m., a neighbouring police agency arrested a 34-year-old female who was wanted on an endorsed arrest warrant held by the Belleville Police Service. The female was transported to the Belleville Police Service where she was released on an Undertaking for one count of domestic assault and two counts of fail to attend court. She was given a court date in June. The name of the female is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim in the domestic assault.

Historical sexual assault charge

TRENT HILLS — Northumberland OPP Crime Unit has charged an individual in relation to a historical sexual offence.

The investigation began on February 2, 2024, after the victim reported the incident to police.

The incident is reported to have occurred between 1972 and 1975 while the victim was in the care of a group home and placed to live in the care of the accused. The victim was under 14-years-old at the time.

As a result of the investigation, on May 6, 2024, Allan Kerr, 75, of the Municipality of Trent Hills, was arrested and charged with sexual intercourse with a female under 14 years of age.

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

Commercial vehicle initiative

MADOC — A commercial vehicle inspection initiative in Madoc has resulted in nine vehicles being taken out of service and removed from the roads.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) TIME (Traffic Incident Management Enforcement) Team and inspectors from the Ministry of Transportation inspected 24-commercial vehicles on May 7. In addition to the vehicles removed from service, officers also arrested one driver for being impaired behind the wheel.

In total nearly two dozen charges were laid for numerous offences, including impaired driving, faulty brakes, violations of the Periodic Mandatory Commercial Vehicle Inspection regulations, electronic log issues and registered weights.
